Not surprisingly, I suppose, last week’s chapter dashed whatever hopes any of us might have had that the two parties would come to some accommodation on the vacancy created by the death of the Chief Justice. That being the case, it looks like the battle is about to begin.
Tonight’s chapter will focus on Wednesday, the day after the President sat down with the leadership of the Senate and was unable to achieve any consensus. As you may recall, the President had asked his chief of staff, Wayne Taylor, to call the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Bill Cahill, to see whether he could recommend any of his Senate colleagues for the job.
We’ll get the answer to that question and more in Chapter 7, which should be up now.
