Chapter 6 is up and with its posting we’re largely finished with Brian’s past. In addition to focusing on Brian’s past, this chapter also focuses on Eric’s future and how his future becomes an on-going part of Brian’s present.
Sadly, we already know the future will not be kind to Eric. That’s why I selected the image above to help us recall his playful nature. It’s the way I think he would have liked being remembered and the way I like remembering him.
For Brian life will go on; and while his encounters with Father Richard and Eric can help us understand how he came to hate Christmas so much, the question that remains to be answered is exactly how the past will shape Brian’s future.
To some degree we’ve already seen glimpses of how the past has affected Brian in the present at age 29. He seems to be drifting through life without much direction or purpose, alone, depressed, and without much passion for life. But what does the future hold for him?
That’s what the remaining chapters will try to answer. Before they can, however, we must first pay the dues the past insists upon, hard as they may be.
I hope everyone celebrated the new year the traditional way, by kissing someone they love very much. If you missed out on that, here’s a little present that should warm the heart and a big SMOOCH from me.
As always, please feel free to share any comments you have at the end of the chapter or by sending me an e-mail to let me know what you think.
