Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

Still looking for that perfect holiday gift?

The perfect gift comes from the heart so here’s another reminder there’s still time for you to make a difference this year in the life of some boy or girl who is homeless this holiday season. All you need to do is care.

C = Contribute generously to organizations that help runaway and homeless youth

A = Ask your family, friends and loved ones to do so as well

R = Reach out to kids by volunteering some of your time at an organization that works with them

E = Educate yourself about the seriousness of the problem

In a previous post I listed a number of charitable organizations you might want to consider supporting. Here are two more.

The National Runaway Switchboard (soon to be known as the National Runaway Safeline) helps keep America’s runaway, homeless and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. Among other services, it can deliver messages from runaways to their parents and from parents to runaways. With the help of Greyhound Lines, it can also help runaways get back home safely if they want to go home.

Children of the Night helps and supports children who are forced to prostitute themselves on the streets for food and shelter. Through their outreach, shelter home, and 24-hour crisis hotline, Children of the Night is able to rescue youth who are trying to escape the streets.

Still haven’t found the charity that’s right for you? Write to me. Let me know where you are and what you’re looking for and I’ll try to help you find exactly the organization that can help.

In the end, a commitment to making a difference for these kids has to come from within. But everyone can make a difference and I guarantee your holidays will be happier if you care. So don’t just read the words.

Do it now. Give something back.

Show the love! Get involved! Make a difference!
